Because seriously, I should be allowed to. How can such a tiny little human being contain so much awesomesauce?
Her speech at the
GLAAD Awards was perfection. Sure you could tell that there were nerves there, but like the pro she is, she made it fly anyhow. She kept switching between adorkable and sexy in the blink of an eye, deliciously throwing in Santana moments in between what appears to be pure Naya.
Then there was the actual content of her speech, the words she uttered. If she wrote that herself my admiration for her skyrocket (which is insane because it is already in orbit), not only because she use alliterations such as "majestic mean-girl" and "luscious lady loving", but because of the gorgeously semantic line she walked without a single misplaced step.
She managed to play every heartstring of the entire glee fandom. Mentioning how much Santana loves Brittany and how much she loves her current storyline, "innocently" blurring the lines between herself and her character. Using lingo that is so specific to the fandom and to the gay community that it will work as a dog whistle in the mainstream. Making us gush and love and flail.
Then there was the other side to it. She makes a little dig at Mark, whom she has confirmed she dated, reminding us of her heterosexual tendencies. She continues by being a professional and linking herself to a long list of celebrated "gay for pay" actors and emphasising the honour in playing a gay character and being a role model and ally for people in the LGBT community.
And to finish it all off she auctions off sweet lady kisses and the fact that a man and a woman tied for the peck only proves to highlight the image she presented throughout the whole thing. That openness that makes sure both gays and straights will find her sympathetic, non-threatening and supportive.
I just don't have the words for how perfect it was. How skilfully she walked the line between hetero and homo. But the thing is she wasn't just diplomatic, she was bloody entertaining while she was at it. I adore her for what she does, but damn this lady could have quite the career in politics.
Who am I trying to kid, this post was just the time-killing way of writing;
I adore Naya Rivera.
