By popular demand. Or well Lolly told me to, so I had to.
I've been thinking a lot about the phrase "so gay!". I've realised it is something that pops up quite frequently in a lot of my conversations. Which in turn made me look at the meaning behind them. I guess it's usually used as a derogatory term describing something uncool or something weird. Or just another way of describing something homosexual. Not for me.
"So gay" is basically a term of endearment in my world. I've realised "she is so gay" is the greatest compliment in my vocabulary (besides EAT HER JAW! but that's another more complicated story). "She is so gay" - doesn't exclusively focus on sexuality (but it doesn't exclude it either), it isn't as simple as saying she is such a big lesbian. Because in the term "so gay" there's so much more included. It's about mannerism, it's about attitude, it's about values, and it's about attraction. When all of those come together creating something I find hard to put into words or even begin to describe, my mind always whispers, "so gay".
I think the best metaphor might be a moth's pull towards the light. That pull, the undeniable attraction and admiration that goes beyond and above logic, that's...that's so gay.
How do you use the term? And what's the greatest compliment in your vocabulary?
