It's Top 10 time!

Jan 13, 2009 19:37

Sure, everyone's done their Top 10 lists already, but now it's my turn.
And who are you going to trust anyways?  A critic, a member of the press, someone who actually gets paid for their analysis, or a guy who's basically an opinionated snob with a keyboard?  I thought so...

So without further ado, here's the first of my Top 10 lists and this one is dedicated to the MOVIES!

#10) Wall-E
- Yes, it was cute.  I thought it tried TOO hard to be cute at times, but it was cute.  Especially if you like a story about a mechanical E.T. falling in love with an iPod.

#9) Pineapple Express
- A stoner comedy action movie.  Doesn't sound like it would really work, but it did.  And James Franco hasn't been this good since Freaks & Geeks.

#8) Appaloosa
- I could watch Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris all day, even the presence of Renee Zellweger didn't fuck it up.

#7) Cloverfield
- Yes, the shaky cam kind of caused motion sickness after awhile and the monster was a let down, but I still like the idea and execution of a giant monster movie told from the perspective of the people blindly running away.

#6) Get Smart
- Steve Carell, Alan Arkin and the Rock were funny, and Anne Hathaway was hot.  I was plenty entertained.

#5) Hamlet 2
- Hope is a Demon Bitch

#4) The Bank Job
- I don't think a lot of people saw this, which is a shame.  Because it was really good and also might've been the one movie where Jason Statham kept his shirt on...maybe that's why no one saw it.

#3) Tropic Thunder
- It was actually funnier than the trailer and these days, that sayin' something.  I'd watch it again just to see Robert Downey Jr., and I'm not a big fan of Robert Downey Jr.

#2) Slumdog Millionaire
- It just won the Golden Globe for best dramatic picture and it totally deserved it.  Then again, I'm a sucker for Bollywood films.

And finally the top spot goes to...

#1) Iron Man
- It did was few movies do anymore, just be fun.  That's what I loved about movies as a kid and I got that same kind of feeling with this one.  Guess I should also readdress my disdain of Robert Downey Jr. at this point too.

PS - So what about the Dark Knight, you ask?

- I saw it.  I didn't think it was as amazing as the rest of the world apparently.  It was way too long and should've been two separate movies.  Heathe Ledger was pretty good, but just because he died doesn't make his performance transcendent.  And if I had to listen to Christian Bale's gargling lava Batman voice for 5 minutes longer, I would've gone insane.  I give it a solid B, but overall I wasn't all that impressed to be honest.
