With a shiver in my bones just thinking about the weather

Feb 01, 2008 14:30

I called out of work today (lady reasons) - I was there until 7:30 last night anyway so I knew I didn't have much sitting on my desk, much like earlier in the week.  (This didn't stop work from calling me twice and having to log in to my email account 3x for carpeting specs, a Fresh Direct order and to confirm a board meeting date.)

I had to go feed the lot cats and bribed myself to do so with a vegan blueberry muffin and coffee awaiting me at the coffee shop.  Wind like you would not believe, wow.  I had to use 2 hands to hold the umbrella against the wind ("It's coming right for us!") and it was threatening to collapse my umbrella on my head.  As soon as I got my blueberry muffin and coffee I hightailed it back home, soaked.  (And I reminded my kittehs how lucky they are when I walked in the door.)

I like the women who work at the coffee shop (and the 10 year old boy who works there on Saturdays).  When I walked in today one of them was talking to a customer about brains.  And the customer was saying that brains are so enigmatic and we cannot recreate their functionality with machines.  I agree - I have been reading The Infinite Gift:  How Children Learn and Unlearn Languages of the World, which is not just about children, of course.  It's about adult humans and animals as well in relation to language.  So I agreed with their points but it was just such a coffee shop conversation that I laughed.  Ha.  Ha ha.  Ha.

I apologize in advance if the entry title got Natalie Merchant stuck in your head.
