All right, so, what does "pending Delete" in the status of a whois search mean? Does that mean the domain should be available soon? Because I want to buy back my old domain. I found this in an FAQ on WHOIS:

What is PendingDelete Status?

All domains that have passed the initial Suspension period (30 days from expiration) or that have been deleted, are initially placed on PendingDelete status before being purged from the Registry database and made available for registration. The exception to this rule are domains that are deleted within the first five days of the initial registration. These domains will not be placed on PendingDelete and will be purged immediately. Otherwise, domains will remain on PendingDelete status for a period of 20 days before being purged, unless they are "redeemed" by the registrar. This period is known as the Redemption Grace Period (RGP). See below for more information on RGP and domain redemptions.

You can always check archive.org to see if all your files are lost forever. I've been able to find a lot of things there.

Ah ha! Thank you so much, Sharon. I'll give it a month and check again.

Unfortunately everything from my old site has been wiped from archive.org. I don't know if that happened when the new domain owner set it to block robots from indexing or if it was for some other reason, but really I have to take a lot of the blame for relying on The Way-Back Machine instead of downloading stuff when I had the chance.
