By now, many people know that my brother Rick got into a pretty serious bicycle accident yesterday at about 3:30 p.m. I don't know a lot of the details about the accident, because he's under some pretty seriously heavy sedation and is in a lot of pain. He was on his way to work and "near the Fiore," when he said he saw something out of the corner of his eye that startled him. He overcompensated with the brakes, flipped over the handlebars, and face-planted himself onto the pavement. He went by ambulance to UW Hospital, but no visitors allowed yet.
He suffered some abrasions, a broken nose, a broken right elbow, and a broken right upper arm; but he is moving his head, his good arm, and his legs and is as lucid as you can probably be on serious drugs. He will have surgery tomorrow (Thursday) to repair the damage to his arm. Seems like he will be in hospital for at least a week, and then out of work for some time. We will have to throw a rent party.
My sister, my brother and I really appreciate the well-wishes and offers of help that people are making, and I promise to keep everyone posted about how he's doing and when he can have visitors. You all rock.
He did manage to vote before the accident, so at least there's that.
