Life was simpler when I just had to choose between chocolate or regular milk at lunchtime

I am currently in a Rather Large Tiff with my parents (re: mostly my mother) over something Utterly Ridiculous, with no foreseeable end insight.  And I need impartial views to decide what to do … by Monday.

Hmmm...

Well, here's the deal. I really, really enjoyed the Institute. It was a great opportunity to almost sort of work with professors on relatively equal terms. That being said, living on campus over the summer can, indeed, be a lonely prospect. I was really lonely the first year that I did it, but last summer was pretty great.

I would say to stick with your choice to do what will make you less miserable, if you really think that being here is miserable. What's worth more--being insanely miserable this time next year or being happy and just having to deal with the occasional nagging from your mother?

Do let me say, on the end of grad work, that this whole deal may or may not add to grad school appeal. I mean, in terms of continuity and commitment it would look excellent, but it you could find an equally cool or better opportunity with someone else near you I think that that would be a better option/fit. Prof. Moreland is a VERY understanding man, and I am sure that he wouldn't be beat up by the idea of you pursuing something else this summer.

Bottom line-- don't like any one else, ESPECIALLY Rhodes, rob you or your joy. I learned that lesson the haaaaard way, and I'm never gonna let it happen again, if I can pull it.
