oh dear god.  The US population just elected ANOTHER idiot for twelve years straight.  I think we can officially rival Mexico. Or Zimbabwe.

One who wants to bankrupt one of the largest industries we have left, and thus make us even more enslaved for foreign energy sources...
...and who think welfare states of huge populations actually work...AND ( Read more... )

I found myself rather underwhelmed by the election... probably has to do with the fact that, to be completely honest, I wasn't thrilled by the idea of Obama OR McCain becoming president.

And... holy crap, people. -.-; My reaction to my friend's going "OMGYAY!" "SOHAPPY!" and "I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO CRY WITH JOY!" was a rolling of eyes and a vague nausea.

In general, I'm thinking libertarians have it right >.>; I'm (obviously) socially liberal, but I think being fiscally conservative makes a lot more sense than communism, if you know what I mean ^.~

Also, Proposition 8 is horrifying for me in quite a few ways. When I saw that it was close to passing last night, I had to turn off the computer and walk away because I just felt /ill/. I haven't had the heart to check up on it again yet.

Without going into a ginormous rant about the anti-gay-marriage votes... one of my main questions is how, exactly, do they propose to define "man" and "woman?" Because really, there are a number of people who don't fall conveniently into standard gender binary. Does someone who was born XXY instead of XX or XY have the right to marry at all, or can they just marry whomever they want?>.>

Blah.

...you know, I'm pretty certain that that's a point that only anthropologist students would raiseXD

"Oh, I was referring to the sex, not the gender system"

Still--true that. But I draw the line at animals and fiction characters>>

But inquiring minds want to knoooooow--!!!!oneoneoneeleventyone!

Hah. I spend too much time studying cross-cultural gender norms, and gender issues in general. Too bad I don't think I can make a job out of it. XD But at least it would give me something to do my thesis on, if I hop off the fence and finally just decide to do cultural anthro instead of arch, right?

Also: animals + fictional people = silly (and ew[and madness Sparta!]). Why can't we just word the law as "between consenting adults" or somesuch?>.>
