Sometimes I forget that I have all sorts of nerd stuff pushed to the far corners of my brain. There is complete validity of your love of "interestingly normal" photographs over the probably-self-proclaimed "artistic" type. You're always going to find the one guy in the crowd, in whatever subject you're talking about, who knows too much, or thinks he knows too much, for his own good. Regardless of vast intelligence, if he can't make the "normal" picture appealing, or doesn't see the appeal in "normal" pictures, then he isn't a photographer worth his salt. It's basic photography 101: Composition - shapes, angles, textures, patterns, light v. dark, etc. It's that particular photographer that seems to think good photography means pushing the envelope on techniques, and seeing how edgy they can be in how uncomfortable they can make the viewer feel about their photos. All bullshit. Most times, this is the guy that took a blurry picture by accident one time, and convinced himself it was art. Now, he's trying to convince the world. He may find himself stuck, doing art that no one will ever understand or appreciate but him. ( ... )
