I was just putting my bowling balls in my car after shitting the bed in a tournament. the cell rang.it was my friend Sam, and all she said after i answered was "Alain Budd died." a bit in shock, i noticed it started to rain.
i didnt believe it. i wouldnt. i couldnt. Alain is a swimmer i thought, hes a healthy teenager, this couldnt be true. i wished that he was pulling some elaborate prank and that we would all see him in school the next day.
so i said screw the eating contest. i went home, set the cruise control to 55 so i wouldnt speed. got on the computer and go straight to MassLive. if any place would have news on a westernmass qualified swimmer, it would be there. and sure enough in big capitalized letters, "ALAIN BUDD PASSED AWAY" i didnt know what to think. i want to be able to be of comfort to his family but i dont know them, i met his mother once and she passed away last year. their family has been through the worst shit, and they just lost their baby.
