Summery Toro find an inaccuracy in a book funny. Bucky doesn't see the humor.
A snort of laughter from beside him caught Bucky's attention. He glanced up from the detective comic he'd been reading and saw Toro shaking his head.
"What's funny?" Bucky inquired, setting the comic down in his lap. He shifted so he could see the book Toro was reading and when he made out the title, he smirked.
"Heroes of World War II?" Bucky scoffed. "That's about us isn't it? Now I'm almost afraid to ask what's funny."
Bucky leaned against the couch's armrest and waited a moment until Toro looked over at him.
"It says here I took it upon myself to seal Jim in the ground to protect him and to protect the world from him." Toro snickered.
Bucky eyed his friend for a moment, one eyebrow quirked up. "But isn't that what happened?" He shifted little as the air in the room suddenly felt thicker somehow. "I don't understand, pal."
Toro looked directly at him and Bucky shifted backward a little more. Toro'ss eyes are wild, and the smile on his face is twisted into something that is almost a grimace.
"Oh God no, Buck. I wasn't trying to save anyone. I was having a temper tantrum."
"Temper tantrum?" Bucky repeated, thinking that somehow he misheard.
Toro nodded. "I was so mad at Jim. Heck I was mad at you, Steve, Brian, my parents everyone I could think of. But mostly Jim. When you died he promised he'd stay with me and then he just . .. gave up." Toro shrugged his shoulders and continued to grin as though the story were some sort of joke. "I couldn't think I was so angry, so blasted the ground until I was too tired to flame on and passed out in the desert."
Toro tilted his heads to the side and tapped a forefinger against his lip. "In retrospect passing out like that probably wasn't a good idea. But anyway," he continued holding up the book. "This author though I was being tragically heroic, funny huh."
Bucky looked at Toro for a long moment, then forced himself to smile back. "Yeah, Toro," he said in an even voice, "funny."
