During my work break today I wanted to write a few drabbles dealing with Toro and Jim and each relating to the others death or impending death. Instead, I ended up with a ficlet about Toro getting mad at Bucky.

Title Ground Rules
Rating G
Characters Toro and Bucky
Word Count 422
Summery Toro gets a point through Bucky's thick skull

Exhausted from a day of crawling though mud that had been broken only by combat, Toro collapsed onto the ground of the impromptu campsite. Lying in the cold mud, he decided he could sleep in that exact spot, rocks and all, with no problem.

A foot nudged him and he looked up to see Jim holding a pillow and a small square of course fabric. Toro gathered his energy and smiled.

"Thanks Pappy."

Before Jim could answer, Bucky's voice cut in from just to Jim's left. "Ohh look guys, widdle Tommy's pappy came and made things better. Maybe widdle Tommy's pappy can stay and be his nightlight t-"

Scrambling to his feet with a shout of rage, Toro found the strength for one more fight. He swung his fists and Bucky despite knowing how out matched he was. With a few simple moves, Bucky had Toro on the ground, but still Toro kept swinging and kicking until Jim pulled him and Bucky apart. With a look of warning, Jim shoved Toro away from Bucky.

"Aw c'mon," Bucky laughed, "if the little brat wants to get creamed 'cause he can't take some dirt, let 'em."

"It wasn't funny," Toro snarled, trying hard not to flame on, and harder not to try and punch the jerk again.

"Geez, a little oversens-"

"Shut it Buck." Toro snapped. He moved forward, getting close enough into Bucky's space again the Jim cleared his throat in warning.

"You want to make fun of me for not being army, fine," Toro hissed, taking another step closer to Bucky. "You want to point out how bad I am at hand to hand, fine. You want to make fun of me for not knowing all your military lingo, ok fine." He narrowed his eyes pushed so close to Bucky that their noses almost touched. "But, you will not mock how I deal with my parents' death! Do you understand that?"

Toro took a few steps back so he could jab a finger into Bucky's chest, "If I want to deal with it by calling Jim 'Pappy' rather than being an utter jerk to everyone smaller than me, I get to do that and you do not get to make fun of me for it, get it."

Bucky nodded in wide eyed silence.

"Good," Toro snarled before turning around and grabbing Jim's hand.

"C'mon Pappy," he said, tugging at Jim, "I think I'm awake enough now to find a more comfortable sleeping spot."

Toro didn't even spare Bucky a look back.
