In the next few years I'm going to make it a goal to return to one of my favorite exits in America: Zzyzx road in southern California. The first time I passed Zzyzx I imagined it to be a "mecca of silliness", but alas, it is just the site of a Desert Studies Center and the location of Lake Tunedae, one of the refuge habitats of the endangered Mohave tui chub. According to Wikipedia, the bands Stavesacre and Stone Sour both have songs named after Zzyzx. What a lot of people don't know is the Beatles' "a day in the life" was written to be a soundtrack for an afternoon in Zzyzx, California.
