new year
the day of, vanessa, the new au pair, and i went to amsterdam to meet my friend laurens at anton's houseboat. it was really nice to see that area of amsterdam- i'd never been there before and vanessa found it weird that someone could live on a boat and love it. but this one was really nice. anton decorated it with lots of beautiful art, richly colored pillows, beautiful plants, and great lighting. we had some drinks, snacks, and chatted. i gave laurens a new hair style for the night. he was curious about trying something new. we had to leave at 19.45 because the trains stopped running from amsterdam to haarlem at 20.00.
so vanessa and i went to haarlem and walked back through the melted snow. when we got home i was pretty tired but knew we had to get ready to go to bianca's soon because everyone else was already there...but i thought a little 20 min nap wouldn't kill me. well when i woke up 10 minutes later, i've never felt so nauseaus in about...i can't even remember when. i was sick all night long, running back to the bathroom every 40 minutes.
but the fireworks were great, fred really did a good job with that. and it was good to see everyone again. we don't always get together like that so it was nice to be there. i didn't go to the patronaat that night, but it worked out ok because maxie didn't get guestlisted and if i had gone, vanessa wouldn't have had a ticket. so it all worked out in the end. i just went to bed after they left and stayed with andy and charlene until they came home in the morning.
don't they say that if it's a bad new year's night you'll have a good year?
