Captain's Log, 8:50 am
I got up at 08:00 GBT, after 5 hours sleep. It's now 08:50, Beijing time (00:50, GMT), and I've not slept. I may get a couple of hours after lunch, or something.
Anyway, I'm here, and the hotel has internets.
Incidents to date:
Areoplanes are safe - they don't let you take sharp things into the cabin. So I sliced my hand open on the plastic knife they give you to cut bread with.
Chinese traffic is not safe. Picture the taxi we were in, pulling onto the hard shoulder to undertake a car (3-lane motorway). Further picture the hard shoulder being 2m wide, the undertaking cutting the car off from an off-ramp. To complete the picture, add a police car, lights flashing, crusing along two lanes away from us, and not batting an eyelid.
We're to take today easy, mostly. Jolly good.
