The origin of Gothic

About the source of the word “gothic”, it earliest came from a tribe called West Goth, the destruction and looting of the tribe is noted for its ignorance and lake of artistic taste. Middle ages, a spire cathedral as the most significant characteristic architectural style is popular, and so-called “Gothic” architecture. In the UK the Victorian era, represented by a group of writers such as Edgar Allan Poe、Mary Shelly and Bram Stoker whose thriller fictions are also called “ Gothic” style.
The famous Italian painter Raphael in its letter to Pope Leo x, used the word “gothic” in the first place, in order to critics of central and northern Europe before the renaissance architectural style, where the term “gothic” as “ barbaric” synonymous language, thus called everything coming from the North of the Alps “ Gothic”. In fact, the Gothic art and Gothic people has no connection, it is the higher development of “Roman” art, is a reflection of the ideal of the medieval Catholic.
