Being Tommy's Mommy

Oct 15, 2009 17:51

Things have been really up and down lately.  Tom's having some real issues with breastfeeding.  He keeps latching on for a few seconds (or just a few minutes) only to "pop off" and scream and cry.  Sometimes he chokes - other times it's as if he just doesn't know how to stay latched on.  Yesterday he did great - the day before was a nightmare - and today's been pretty rough too.  I caved (after trying six or seven times) and gave him a bottle (BreastFlow) of pumped milk today - and he guzzled it down greedily.  I nearly cried.  It sucks so much to want to be his source of nutrition and comfort - only to be upstaged by a f*cking bottle.

I know he likely still has Thrush (I'm certain I do) - and have ordered some Gentian Violet (which should be on it's way)...

He was also diagnosed with Reflux (although he never spits up - he does appear to gasp for breath - and sputters).  And sometimes, he seems to have gas pains...

I wonder if he's not teething.  He hasn't ran any fever...

I wish he could just tell me what's wrong!

A bit of good news - WIC gave me the most bad ass brand new, electric breast pump (regularly $299)!  Once I'm over the Thrush, I'm hoping to donate to Austin Milk Bank!

Tommy's grunting - gonna try to put him to the breast before he knows what's what...
