[Instant Pot] Frozen Cheese Tortellini from Wegmans

Apr 09, 2021 16:18

I can never, ever get tortellini right on the stove top. It either is too gummy or not fully cooked. But with an Instant Pot, it is perfect, every time. And you can too!

As for any other frozen tortellini brands, it will work identically. Don't try this with refrigerated tortellini as it is too delicate. Dry tortellini has its own recipe.

I also want to say that this doesn't include sauce. You are on your own to figure out sauce (like, say, from a jar or can), or use a recipe that cooks the sauce and the tortellini together all yummy-like.

This recipe just gets you from frozen plain cheese-tortellini to cooked plain cheese-tortellini.

Use case: Children who cannot agree on a sauce and you'd like to automate the tortellini cooking process so that you can spend more time with them.

Ingredients/Materials

  • frozen cheese tortellini (I have this kind)
  • 1-2 c water
  • Instant Pot steamer rack (should have come included with your Instant Pot)
  • bowl that can handle being in the Instant Pot (I use the bottom bowl of this set; no lid)
  • Instant Pot
Procedure

  1. Place the steamer rack into the inner pot of your Instant Pot.
  2. Fill the inner pot of your Instant Pot with water until just under the steamer rack. This should be some amount of water between 1 and 2 cups.
  3. Put your bowl onto the top of the steamer rack.
  4. Fill the bowl with as much frozen cheese tortellini as thrills you or will feed the hungry mouths. Do not cover this bowl.
  5. Place the lid on the Instant Put and set the lid-knob to SEAL.
  6. Press the STEAM button on the Instant Pot and set the time to 14 minutes.
  7. At the end of the 14 minutes when the Instant Pot indicates completion, you can either: (1) allow a natural release for 10 additional minutes and then turn the knob to VENT -or- (2) allow the Instant Pot to naturally release as long a necessary for the pin to drop. This is flexible and depends on how hungry the mouths are, how soon meal time is, and how involved you are in paying attention to everything but the cooking.
  8. Sauce, eat, and enjoy!
