Rested.

I went to the doctor's yesterday and was told that I had indeed sprained my back and not slipped a disc or got lumbago or anything sinister. It was a different doctor and I was told that the reason that it hurt so much was because, when I initially hurt myself last week, I overdid it by getting on with things when I should have rested and because I had stopped taking painkillers. I feel better about the whole thing now as I have been given some exercises to do and been given a proper medication regime - pharmacy strength Ibuprofen 3 times a day and 30mg of codeine when I need to up to four times a day. Needless to say that the codeine is on prescription.

Kate and I went to bed really early last night because we had so little sleep the night before and it was a wonderful night's sleep. My back, although stiff, was not giving me any pain to really speak of and I managed to sleep more or less right up to the morning. It highlighted just how rare a good night's sleep is these days. I get lie ins all the time (the benefit of doing late shifts) but to go to bed early and get up early (well, before 9) and feel really refreshed is wonderful. I have no idea what to do with my day, but even so!

Last night, Kate and I watched Day of the Triffids :-D. It was great. The acting was cheesy, the direction was suspect and the horror was comical but it was a cracking watch. There's something about 50s made horror/sci-fi movies from the 50s that I love. Probably the underlying political message that it's not aliens or giant plants attacking the earth but communists or young people. The best movie of this genre in my opinion in the 70s remake of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers with Donald Sutherland because it's so bleak and politicised.

Although on the surface they belong to a genre of music that I have no interest at all in, I fucking love Jimmy Eat World. I also love that they have no image to speak of. They just write and perform blisteringly great pop songs about the issues faced by 20-somethings. Which makes them unique for their style, I think.
