Ever have one of those days where nothing is what you expect it to be? Okay, Mass was exactly what I expected it to be. Dance rehearsal? Became a birthday party for one of the little girls in the troupe, replete with Disney Princess-themed cake. I was then inundated with food (some of which was sent home with me and is in my refrigerator). You can't turn down food. Even when I tried to beg out that I was very full and my tummy only has so much room, I was still handed off a second slice of birthday cake, because I had eaten the first slice in the room with the kids and the adults had not witnessed its consumption.
The family who started the dance company insisted I come with them to what I though was an afterparty for the older dancers. As it turned out, we were going to the Muslim circumcision celebration/party(?) for a young boy in the summer Indonesian arts camp. I recognized some people there from Santi Budhaya, but not really the family, and I was probably the only person there without family ties to Indonesia, and stood out conspicuously in appearance.
It was fun. I ended up being served (and consuming) another full meal and dessert while watching some of my friends go up for karaoke of songs I had never heard before, in a language I could not positively I.D., but I was caught myself unconsciously swaying to in my seat.
