A Sentimental Consideration of Life in Tartarus

Nov 08, 2006 20:26

To lose what you fear losing most
gives rise to worser fears,
let truth be known. I’ve hove a stone
for years and years and years.

And thou my darling, sweet my darling,
lost to me forever,
whom from me thisrty Tantalus
his protean stream does sever,

must not think repetition’s made
my days any less long.
By my step I may count the ways
in which I’ve done thee wrong.

And oh my darling, thou my darling,
forever lost to me,
I lie awake each night, in thought,
and thinking, sigh o’er thee,

and sighing, sigh the sighs
which come accompanied by tears.
Let truth be known. I’ve lived alone
for years and years and years.
