I am saddened to see things have ended up like this. In your words, "after all we've been through" it feels terrible to see one of the long time regulars to be banned.
However, I am not commenting on the decision made by the moderators as such. Neither did I see the discussion preceding the verdict, nor do I have any say on how the forum should be run. The moderators, whom I hold in high regard, are doing their job voluntarily on their free time, so it is entirely up to them to set the rules. Having said that, I really would have preferred that you had not been banned, as I've quite enjoyed our discussions most of the time. On the other hand, to be frank, I have not quite as much enjoyed observing the interactions between you and some other members, but I am very uncomfortable judging which side is more to blame.
This group, as you've probably noticed, is rather quiet nowadays. I am not going to suppress your free speech by stopping you from posting, though I'm afraid there won't be much discussion here. I myself rarely use LJ and only learnt about your recent posts from my wife.
I thought the beer might have been yours from two years ago. :P It's not bad, considering its age. But do stay away from that package of Wasa Flatbread in the life jacket cupboard -- it has seen better days!
Ianus, I don't expect or wish you to take sides -- I, too, have enjoyed our discussions and would rather not let this unpleasantness mar that. I am just grateful you have not tossed me off the boat.
Regarding the "discussion" preceding the permanent ban -- there was none. The discussion preceding my four-day ban is still on the What in the World thread, I think.
A copy of my post in response to that four-day ban ("A defense") I pasted here. It stood for a good part of the day on the HPN until shortly after Olwen came online. I believe it was she who took down that post and then banned me. Neither she nor SIP said a word to me preceding the permanent ban.
