Why Did It Have To Be You
Chapter 19: The Sinful Accident

“You know what, the boys and I will just watch TV over at the 11th floor. Soo Young, Yoona, do you guys wanna come?” Lee Teuk asked, trying to cool off the situation.

“Well, that depends. What’re you watching?” Soo Young replied.

“A marathon of Iris episodes.” Shindong answered.

Iris was one of Soo Young’s favorite shows and she felt so bad when she missed a couple of episode a few months ago.

She promised to buy Iris DVDs, but never had the time to do so.

“Okay! I’m coming!” Soo Young replied.

“Very well then.. Off to the 11th floor!” Lee Teuk said, trying to sound happy but ended up being awkward.

Lee Teuk was the last one to pass by Yoona and when he did, he dragged her with the rest to the 11th floor.

He was just trying to save her from a confrontation.

As soon as the door closed, silence filled the whole room.

Dong Hae and Jessica both stood there.

“Dong Hae -..”

“I’m not in the mood to talk, Jessica.” Dong Hae said as he walked past her.

“Look, I know you’re mad, but please.. can you just listen to me?” Jessica asked.

Dong Hae looked at her for a split second then sat in the couch.

The last thing he wanted tonight was relationship drama.

“Dong Hae..” Jessica’s voice started breaking.

“Please.. Look at me.” She said.

Dong Hae breathed heavily in reply.

Jessica walked slowly to the couch and kneeled right in front of him.

She held his hands and looked at him straight in the eye.

“4 weeks, Jessica. 4 weeks. No texts, calls, IMs.. What happened to you?” Dong Hae asked.

What Jessica going to say?

Was she going to tell the truth?

That besides being super busy, she spent those 4 weeks ignoring Dong Hae’s texts, calls and messages because she spent her remaining free time writing lengthy messages for Jaebeom through e-mail and hoping for him to reply?

“My.. My friend died.” Jessica lied.

She felt so bad after saying that.

“Which friend?” Dong Hae asked, starting to worry.

“My friend back in the States. She got hit by a car and lost her life 4 weeks ago. I wanted to fly back to the States so badly, but I couldn’t, due to my schedule. I decided to lay low from the world in order to show that was in a current state of grief.” Jessica explained.

She didn’t know why everything she said just flowed out of her mouth as smoothly as telling the truth.

“Jessica.. I’m so sorry.” Dong Hae apologized, hugging her tight.

All this time he thought she was thinking of her ex and he was wrong.. For all he knew.

“I’m sorry for being mad at you, okay? I was stupid to doubt you.” Dong Hae said, wiping the tears that flowed from Jessica’s eyes.

Jessica simply nodded.

The guilt started bubbling up inside her.

There was a voice saying ‘Jessica, you liar.’ At the back of her head.

“I’m sorry too, Hae.” Jessica said, trying to hush that voice.

“I wasn’t a good girlfriend to you these past few weeks.” She added.

“I should’ve at least told you about what happened to me.”

Dong Hae simply hushed her.

“No, Sica. I am sorry.” He said.

“I’m the one at fault. Don’t blame yourself.” He added.

Jessica just nodded.

Dong Hae pulled her up the couch and put his arms around her.

“Sorry..” He said again.

For a moment the two were silent.

All they did was sit there and rekindle their little flame that had been temporarily burnt out.

“Dong Hae, SNSD and I are leaving for Japan tomorrow.” Jessica said.

“We’re going to have a photo shoot for our photo book.” She explained.

“Oh.. How long are you staying there?” Dong Hae asked.

“About a week or 2.” Jessica replied.

One or two weeks without hearing anything from her again.

Dong Hae breathed heavily in reply.

“So, I guess that means I won’t be hearing from you any time soon.” He said.

“It just gives us more reason to spend time with each other now.” Jessica looking at Dong Hae, meaningfully.

Over at the 11th floor, Soo Young and the boys were pretty hooked with the whole Iris marathon.

They were watching the television series intently.

Yoona had her eyes on the TV but wasn’t exactly watching.

She was busy thinking of someone.

Lee Teuk noticed this and decided to talk to her.

“Uh, Yoona.. Would you mind helping me out in the kitchen? I’m hungry and I’ve been craving for kimbap lately.” Lee Teuk said.

“Sure, oppa..” Yoona said, standing up.

As soon as she and Lee Teuk headed to the kitchen, Yoona was about to head to the refrigerator to get some ingredients but Lee Teuk stopped her.

“We have got to stop this, or else we’re dead.” Lee Teuk said.

“Oppa, what’re you talking about?” Yoona wondered.

“The whole thing between you and Dong Hae has got to stop.” Lee Teuk explained.

It took Yoona about a second before she could get what Lee Teuk said.

“Look, I admit.. I liked what was going on between you and Hae, but this is wrong. He has a girlfriend.” Lee Teuk said.

“Wait, wait, wait, wait.. First of all, there is nothing going on between me and Dong Hae. We’re just.. friends.” Yoona answered.

“Yoona, you and Dong Hae are the two people I can read well. You aren’t just friends and you know that. Though you two don’t admit it, you’ve got feelings for him and so does he for you.” Lee Teuk said.

Yoona stayed silent because she knew that Lee Teuk was right.

“Forgive me, Yoona, but.. We’ve got to stop this.” Lee Teuk said.

Yoona looked at Lee Teuk, looked down and replied.

“Yeah, oppa.. We’ve got to.”
