prettytwilight! Her prompt inspired me straight away. I'm still working on all your other requests, it's just a matter of what jumps into my head first.
I find it.
I crouch down low in the thick grass of the mountains, beads of rocks trickling beneath my steady feet and the soles of my shoes. I can hardly feel them though, because I am too lost in the feeling of the hunt. My senses take hold of me now, not my mind or my soul. My muscles bunch together, ready to pounce on the cougar… three… two… o-
I’ll tell Edward later.
Alice’s thoughts are a mixture of panic and uneasiness. My mind is suddenly disrupted, unable to focus on the cougar that is picking through a smaller animals nest. The cougar that is supposed to be quenching my thirst this very second.
I’ll tell him after he’s found something… he doesn’t need to know Bella has-.
I’ve caught up to her, grabbing her petite arm in my grasp tighter than I realize. She winces, something Alice does even though it may not have physically hurt. I scowl, glaring at her with urgent eyes.
“What about Bella! What have you seen?”
“I, uh, I,” Alice feigns a fit of giggles, noticing the shadows around my eyes. Her thoughts then turn to galloping horses, brumbies… running through green meadows. I narrow my eyes.
“Tell me, Alice!” I demand my voice almost a growl.
“It’s really none of my-”
“Fine, tell me and you can have that Porsche. The yellow one.”
I see Alice’s eyes tear in two. She bites her lip, her spiked hair ruffling slightly in the mountain’s breeze.
“Identical to the one I had in Italy?”
“Yes, Alice, YES!”
“Okay, okay…” she says quietly, thinking about what she’s seen. I see it in my head… playing out like a vision. Bella walking into the Newton’s store for work… yes, that was normal… then nothing. Blackness.
I seethe, releasing Alice.
“Edward!” she calls, but I am already running. “Maybe you should just trust her!”

When I return to Forks, I run along the treaty line. Nothing…
I growl to myself, stamping my foot a little too hard in frustration. The blacktop beneath my foot crumbles like dust.
Yet another pothole to add to Forks’ roads.
It was useless… I couldn’t cross that line. I wouldn’t cross that line. Carlisle’s work, his effort… everything about the treaty would be broken if I so much as put a toe over.
But Bella… she could be in danger…that wolf could lose his temper…
I take a deep breath and lifted my leg to step. I paused, a statue as still as ever. My foot hovers, just above the invisible barrier.
Sighing, I put my foot back down on the safe side of the line. I can control myself. It is possible for Bella to stay alive for an hour or two without my protection.
Maybe if I went to the Newton’s store and convinced Mike Bella was in danger… he could step over the line and tell her I was waiting for her…
No, that was ridiculous. The last thing I wanted was Mike Newton involved.

Comfortable now in my Volvo, I patrol the treaty’s borders and keep a keen eye out for Bella’s truck. I’d hear it before I saw it. I’d smell Bella before I’d even see or hear anything. A new CD plays on the stereo, but I’m not concentrating on how much I like it or how much I don’t. I’m only thinking about Bella. Worrying about Bella…
As I pass slow shoppers and familiar faces along Fork’s main street, I scan their minds for any evidence of her. Glancing at the clock on the dashboard, I know that she’ll be returning soon to meet with Angela.
Then, I smell her. That mouthwatering smell that can only mean Bella. My fingers unclench and clench again around the steering wheel. She also smells of him… of Jacob.
I will keep my temper, however. I haven’t had a chance to hunt and my control is not exactly at its best.
But at least she is safe. That horrible ball of fear evaporates from my still chest. I can 'breathe' a little easier now.
I see her turn up the road, not sensing me yet as she doesn’t speed up. Her truck is rattling along the road at it’s usual pace. She’s heading towards Angela’s.
I try my best to remain invisible, trailing behind her like a silent breeze.
Then, I see the truck swerve ever so slightly. She’s seen me. I can tell because the speed of her truck does not remain constant. I smile to myself, resisting the urge to chuckle. The smile soon fades, because I’m not impressed. I’m not angry, I’m disappointed. Disappointed that she puts herself in danger, despite my efforts to keep her safe.
I see her face glance in the rearview mirror. She slows down to pull into Angela’s driveway, avoiding my gaze at all costs. I do not slow down and catch up with her. I’ll wait for her at home.
I drive past as if I am simply a neighbor, perusing the streets. Bella doesn’t turn to catch my eye, instead she runs up to Angela’s and presses the doorbell with hurried hands. I catch a glimpse of Ben Cheney opening the door for her, before the scene disappears in the rearview mirror.
