Is it really more pathetic to be a die-hard sox fan than a die-hard Communist? After all, the sox haven't been nearly as thorougly discredited as communism has.

My point exactly. It's been tried and tried and tried- and always fails, always turns into a dystopian nightmare. Hence, discredited, in all but the most hopelessly lost academic circles (of which there seems to be a disconcerting amount) and you, my old.

This is a very huge issue, and I don't expect to convince you of the progressive nature of Russia and other countries that had revolutions in relation to capitalist societies, or the historical possibility of socialism ( ... )

Really? Capitalism creates misery? That's interesting. It created misery, in Japan? It created misery in West Germany? It created misery here? No, no it didn't. There was misery to begin with, and it's not gone, but communism created misery in the Sovunion and everywhere else it's been tried. The commoners in the USSR might've had minor material comforts (certainly not to the extent that US or European or Japanese commoners did) but step a toe out of line and they shipped you off to a gulag. The whole system was rotten, and it's only due to the resourcefulness of the Russian people that the system lasted any time at all. The problems with Russian democracy don't highlight communism or discredit democracy- they have to do with conditions in Russia. Russia always has shoddy leadership and probably always will ( ... )
