The Host

Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away.

Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

I will try not to spoil anything because I hate when people do that. It ruins everything. But I did want to put my two scents in about one of my new favorite books, The Host.

I read Stephanie Meyer's other books known as the Twilight Series. I was addicted to reading them because they were so captivating. I even have re-read them and plan on reading them again and again, which I think is weird but awesome. When I heard that Meyer was writing a new book, a new series, I was way excited to have a different story line but with the same kind of excitement and captivation. Well I completely got it. I LOVED The Host. I think I might go as far as to say I liked it more than Twilight. Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves, who couldn't love Twilight? But The Host I think is more grown up and has a greater message to it than Twilight does.

I left finishing The Host feeling almost like a better person, or at least wanting to be a better person. It makes you think about humanity and what it means to be human. What it means to be you, and who you really are. I was bawling my eyes out at some points in the book and just never wanted it to end. I loved it. I loved the characters and feel so much more attached to them then I do Edward and Bella. Thats what it is. Its not that one book or series is better than the other, its just that in The Host, you connect with the characters so well. Their pain is your pain, their joy and terror is your joy and terror. Its like you are in the book yourself and really care what happens. I think it was a great experience to read it and would highly reccommend it. Stephanie Meyer really has a great talent at what she does.

*And for those of you that have read a sanopsis of the book and think it sounds weird e.i. "body snatchers, sci-fy for people that hate sci-fy", I kind of felt the same way. But I will tell you that its not all space shippy and ray guns and alien weirdo stuff. Don't let that set you back and stop from reading it. You would really be missing out. Plus- come on. You already are in love with a vampire that has been around for over 100 years. That's no more weird than one body sharing two people. Its pretty cool. Go check it out!
