Alright.  I have this story idea, and I think I'm going to write it.  However, a part of me feels like it would be really horrible to write.

TL;DR )

Just because someone has passed on doesn't mean their mistakes and bad qualities in life are automatically erased. If the guy was a douche, he was a douche. I'm sure he also had redeeming qualities -- no one is just bad or just good -- but just because he died doesn't mean any of those qualities cease to have ever existed. Remember how Harry was all upset about finding out Dumbledore's past? But he had to accept that those things did happen, and that just because Dumbledore was dead didn't make them okay/not happen.

Very valid points, and kudos for the HP reference. :) I think I feel worse about it because I don't like to bring all this shit up to Joel, but if I don't write it, I'll probably just keep dwelling on what an asshole Bret was every time someone says something about him, so...probably worth writing the story.

I say write it. You're writting about something that happened in YOUR life so your writing from your own experience. So who's to say that you're being disrespectful?

Fair point.

Maybe I just shouldn't let Joel read it. ;)
