A letter in support of Sam&Dean. it's here to sign if you agree...

You may have noticed some of our mods here at theheartofspn have been alittle quiet since the airing of the new season. Some moreso as the season has gone on. To be fair, if I'm reading my flist correctly these past couple weeks, it's probably why some of you haven't had the energy for comments on Sam and Dean lately either ( Read more... )

I think a priority list would be a good idea. They seem to be juggling alot of storylines and quickly loosing sight of the focus in the process. I actually thought they started off with a fantastic setup, but all it takes is four eps puttering around and losing sight of that focus (during SWEEPS even!), that makes me a big ole worrywart.

I don't think I have nothing to say about the wonderful brother moments - but I also don't think that they have to be happy, or dominant in the episode. I see two people who have no chance of walking away from each other, but who might talk about doing just that. If that scares us, fine, and depresses us, fine. The show doesn't need them to have a happy positive supportive chatty loving giving always there for you relationship to be an interesting show. People have problems, and issues, and disagreements, and splits. They make mistakes, hurt others, betray those closest to them, and sometimes they make up, soldier on, keep going, -- but this is Sam and Dean. They won't call it quits, and so I watch them, watch to see how far they can stretch the bond, watch to see how it will snap back into shape, more or less. It's fascinating, and I'm glad the writers realize that (1) there are options (2) especially after 8 years of hunting and multiple deaths and betrayals but (3) Sam and Dean are still the heart of spn.

Oh, man, I eat Winchester problems, issues and disagreements for breakfast!! Haha, no mandate for happy positive Winchesters from me, they have shitloads to work through and rightly they should work through them. I know not everyone liked the setup for this season, I did, I thought it had loads of potential and exactly what the show needed. But I do get nervous when just as they should play that potential, it gets fizzled out for four weeks straight. Mostly because if I, as a crazily dedicated fan finds myself struggling to watch, I wonder how many less dedicated watchers the show could potentially lose on the way. Especially when 250 other very dedicated fans agree in some capacity too.

But we always need those keeping the faith too! Here's hoping the writers do more than pay lip service to the heart of spn, and keep those plans to followthru instead! :D

A letter that is aiming to get 500 signatures probably should stay away from using phrases like 'majority of viewers' when talking about a show with 2.3 million viewers.
I'm having a number of reactions to this letter, none of them are postive, so I'll zip it, no need to upset people.
Nonewithstanding how good or bad a show (any show) is, fans have no buisness to dictated scripts or concepts. If enough people stop watching the show will stop, like all shows eventually do.

This really isn't the place to argue about the letter's contents. It's not my letter. It's not even cherry's letter, the way I understand it, it was a friend of hers that wrote it, showed it to her, and she thought it was something other online fans in fandom (read: spn's more dedicated viewer contingency), might agree with too. It's one person's opinion, up online in a form that if others agree, they can add their signature to the letter too before it's sent. That's all. Like I said, we're just making members aware of it because it's been a topic of discussion in the Sam and Dean community and thus relevant to this comm.

Sorry about posting here, but there is not way to express an opinion anywhere on those links you posted (or I'm just too dumb to find it?) otherwise I'd posted there.

Ah, I see. Well, there is on the tumblr link. Technically, if you have a tumblr and can figure it out (I was so tumblr dumb for so long I couldn't figure it out at first, so I'm sympathetic. I still think the comment system on tumblr is very silly and nonsensical, it's upsetting that so much happens on there.)

I will say, I thought the letter went to great lengths to just say 'this is how I feel as a fan' and didn't in any way act like they were writing to demand or dictate to the writers to write a certain way. But that's just me. :)

Why haven't you made members aware of other campaigns such as those to send postcards congratulating the writers on Season 7?

If this comm had been around at that time (which, it wasn't), then I'm pretty sure that would be our mods decision to make, just like this one was. It's no secret that this season has negatively affected fandom's creative inspirations on the Sam & Dean front. That directly affects the interests of this comm. If adding a signature helps some fans feel even a tiny bit better, then we thought it was worth the post. But that really is our decision to make, isn't it ( ... )

This is not the place to take up old issues you have with me. I'm screening your comment. Take it up with me in PMs if it still bothers you so much.

I personally am willing to sit back and let the storyline play out.

I don't think the writers are going to be swayed from their planned storyline by any fan letters (especially since the next six or eight eps are probably already filmed), and I'm not sure the correspondence would be welcomed even if it's ignored.

And that's totally fine that you think that. We're all allowed our own opinions, and those that signed it all have our own personal reasons for too. I know some flisters of mine that have been unhappy since the start of the season. I liked the setup from the premiere and just want them to commit to it fully and play it out. But I'm sympathetic to some fans that feel like this season is trying their patience. Sometimes it's just about seeing something you've been thinking and being able to say, 'yea, I agree with that too' that can give some solace.

I'm not sure the correspondence would be welcomed even if it's ignored.

We'll have to disagree on this though. I know many writers who welcome feedback from fans as long as it's thoughtful and cordial. They do provide addresses to public for a reason. How much good it will do, well, who really knows, right? But if it makes some feel alittle better just by doing something, at least having their say, it's worth something.
