6.02 Two and a Half Men
I'm just pinch hitting for
ash48 this week and we're up to episode 6.02. In the early episodes of S6, it was easy to see that something was off with Sam but no one knew what or how bad the situation really was. Later we learned that his soul had been left behind in the Cage. Even soulless, he knew to call Dean when he was faced with a baby that needed to be cared for. Like a typical younger brother, he was still able to laugh at his big brother's expense when it came to diaper changing. Later he complemented Dean on his Dad skills. Then he had a frank talk with Dean about how he was managing the situation with Lisa and Ben. Sam didn't handle the conversation as delicately as he might have had he had his soul, but it was important for Dean to talk about it. In the end, it clarified how he wanted to be around Ben and Lisa. I think if Sam had been in possession of his soul, he might have realized the fact that Dean was good Dad material was because he had to step into that role with Sam very early on. Compared to how things got between the boys as the season went on, this episode still has them working together pretty well.
SAM: Huh.
DEAN: What?
SAM: You're just, uh, actually, not awful at that.
DEAN: Dude, I'm barely keeping that thing alive.
SAM: No, no, no, seriously. You've got a whole Dr. Huxtable vibe coming off of you. You're like... father material.
...
SAM: Look, you clearly care about the kid.
DEAN: But?
SAM: But moving them around? Keeping them on lockdown? I mean, you do have them on lockdown, right? How is any of that different from how we were raised?
DEAN: So you're saying... I'm not shoving anybody into this life, okay? This is temporary.
SAM: Dad always said it was temporary, Dean. He said it for 22 years. Look, I get it. You want to watch out for them. That's great. I'm just asking, how do you do that and not turn into Dad?
