Extended Absence

Aug 30, 2006 17:14

The nature of my situation has necessitated my absence from these pages. I trust my absence was not missed. Were it not for my contractual obligation, I would not have returned.

I am in receipt of an owl that would appear to require a response here.

Mr. Snape, you shouldn't take out your romantic frustrations on the more fortunate just because you can't be bothered to wash.

My 'romantic frustrations,' as you call them, do not include an interest in deluded young women. The union in question would have been disastrous. Many brides see no further than the wedding itself when accepting a proposal and I did her a service to point that out to her. Had she truly wished to be 'two flesh made one' with this man, she would have had her eyes open and not minded that the wedding were not one hundred per cent her choosing. Family would have been more important. She is who she is, however, and so I advised her correctly. She wants a mother-in-law who would not intrude on her choices and, as this woman would have not fit that description, she should look elsewhere.

What you haven't seem to have figured out, sir, is that besotted young women rarely listen to any advice, whether good or otherwise, and they're even less inclined to listen to the cynical grumblings of a greasy old queen past his prime. The girl'l learn on her own whether or not she's strong enough to stay married to someone despite the meddlings of a mother-in-law. She wasn't really asking for your advice-- she was looking for your attention.

As usual, Vars, you resort to the ad hominem attack when logic is not on your side. How typical.

Your character had everything to do with your answer to the girl's question, which was what I had an issue with. If you weren't who you are, you may have advised her to do something other than abandon all hope of ever being liked by anyone, as you've done.
Pity you seem to be more popular than you like.
