meme: 7 facts about yourself

Jan 14, 2010 18:21

I got tagged by sarlania !

How it works:
A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

Except, whatever, C is a bit of a mad rule. Do what you like.

God. I don't think I can come up with 7.

1. JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW, I'm an American Revolutionary War reenactor. Primarily an artillerist although I do run about with a musket or rifle on occasion. And yes, I DO have a 3 pounder cannon on a naval carriage in my garage. That ain't just talk. XD

2. AND IN CASE YOU REALLY DIDN'T KNOW THIS EITHER, I'm a bona fide tall ship sailor. As in square rigged ship. I haul lines and set/douse sails and all that sort of shit. Really. So I actually can understand what Bush is doing when he 'goosewings' that foresail. XD right before he goosewings his captain

3. I love shoes. Although I have a hard time buying them because the heels are always too high because .....

4. I have a bad back (arthritis and a blown disk) because .... (see #2)

5. I love dogs. I am unapologetically not a cat lover. I have a 13.5 year old greyhound named Mitzi.

6. I'm extremely Bohemian (there's a big fucking surprise) and I love to wear jewelry. Mostly ethnic style jewelry. And I have beautiful natural fingernails that I love to paint all sorts of colors.

7. I am the Queen of Summer. I love it. It's green and things grow. It must be the Dago blood. XD

3.

Thanks for doing it!

1) JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW, I'm an American Revolutionary War reenactor.

You dark horse, you. ;)

Do you need some kind of special licence to have a piece of artillery in your garage? I love it though. Some people are satisfied with a, you know, handgun in their drawer. Not you. :D

Also while I'm overstepping personal boundaries, how do the cultures of rifling/gun clubs intersect with those of you who use artillery for reenactment? Is there a crossover? I can imagine there being some similar sympathies - for US founding history, and for things that go 'bang', but otherwise maybe it's different group of people? Dunno. Just curious.

5) I suppose me and my persian kitten will forgive you. Mitzi. Love it.

7) I'm an Autumn girl. Nothing is more beautiful than autumn in England. Here in Egypt I feel lost without my four seasons.

*gets all dark horsey*

No license needed. Don't need one for the black powder short arms either-- muskets/rifles.

The reenacting community splits out into specialities -- muskets, rifles, artillery, and dragoons. People join various units based on interests or sheer geographical convenience. The only reenactment unit in your local area may be a rifle company, or it may be an artillery company. But the overall culture has a common base.

There are also 'rules' about what sort of company you can play with according to your firearm. Folks with muskets go with line regiments or militia groups. Folks with rifles fall out with a rifle company. That is because those particular weapons have very particular firing standards, and historically people who were in rifle companies had a different tactical function as opposed to people who were firing muskets.

And yeah, there can be crossover, although with the financial investment there is in getting up and running for a particular impression, you don't find all that much of it. The costs of buying an additional firearm/uniform/accessory kit, etc. self limits that.

You do find, though, that most of the artillery folks also have a firelock. Many use a blunderbuss that they carry across their back.

I'm one of the people that cross pollinates. 90% of the time I'm artillery, but there are events where the cannon isn't part of the scenario so I will fall out with a rifle company and skulk through the woods taking potshots at Redcoats. XD
