1. avant hard:
   The genre of music that Add N to (X) describe themselves as being. I've since stumbled onto some other stuff which seems to be along the same lines (like Barry 7's Electronic Bible Vol. 1) and I love it. Also I love using the term, because most people don't know it.
2. british sea power:
   I never actually paid them much mind when I first heard them, but they're really growing on me. I love them and I like them even more with every listen. Originally it was just the songs 'remember me' and 'apologies to insect life' but - like I said - they grow.
3. electronica:
   It's a broad term, but I feel electronica is taking off more and more with each passing year. I guess it's because technology's improving, so people are no longer restricted to analogue synths and card-punch computers (a la back in the day of Stockhausen.) But yeah, I've heard loads more excellent electronic albums in the past year than any other genre of music.
4. gothic dreampop:
   Three words; "This Mortal Coil." If you don't understand what I mean, download some tracks. It's a sin not to.
5. kiss me deadly:
   A good old noir about a blokey on the search for 'the great whatsit.' (The same briefcase which was paid homage to in Pulp Fiction.) Probably one of the grimmest noirs I've seen.
6. misty cold mornings:
   I have fond memories of walking to school alone when I was in sixth form, walking through the park in the mist and fog. There'd be just vague shapes through it of the other kids walking to school.. but otherwise, I was alone. I'd listen to Radiohead's B-sides from the Amnesiac singles and it would end with the track Fog just as I left the park and entered the lit streets.
7. post-rock:
   Not in the stereotypical 20-minute-long GYBE instrumental-only type music, but generally. I'm glad that there's people out there who 'aren't afraid to rock' so to speak, but are willing to forge ahead.. and be experimental. Do away with the tired old structure that rock has become.. but keep the ideal.. forge something new.
8. sergio leone:
   The man with no name trilogy. How I adore it... Clint Eastwood doesn't so much play a character, as an avenging spirit. I just adored the films - it's always so exciting to watch the action scenes - and the mythology they brought with them.
9. the godfather trilogy:
   It's a tragedy if you ever saw one. Three parts; corruption; consolidation; failed redemption.
   The scene at the end of Part II where the gunshot rings out... it breaks my heart.
10. walks in the dark:
    They all started up properly a year or so ago when I was trying to exercise - I'd go and walk in the dark every night. But I've always liked the dark, it's so peaceful.. and I feel so secure in it. People always complain about being alone in the dark at night because it's scary - but I find that I think there's just less people around to fuck you over. Mmmm.. and in summer... the night feels like a warm blanket.
    Plus, it's the same story as always - take away all the people, and you get to see how fucking beautiful the world is.
