So tonight I went and saw David Bowie in his Reality Tour (aka the Im Pushing 60 and STILL Better Than Anyone Alive Tour) and let me just say it was fucking amazing!
First off, Teege and I got there at like 5:30 and got in early where I proceeded to buy a
Bowie longsleeve shirt, a
Bowie short sleeve tour shirt,
a program,
a pack of buttons,
a pack of patches, and a tour card that you wear around your neck like a backstage pass. The only thing they didnt have that I wanted was
this shirt that I wouldnt be opposed to getting as a birthday present from a group of you all,
So we sat down and eventually found Dawn (a welcome escape from Macy Gray who reaked of ass and pot). We talked to her and watched her buy things then returned to our seats. On our way back, we bumped into the Ethan. Teege and I were on one side of an isle and Ethan and his mom were on the other side of the same isle in the same row. So Ethan was in yelling distance of us and that was cool.
Then Bowie came out.
The man kicked it off with Rebel Rebel and just continued to suprise the audience with amazing numbers that he hasnt played in years and a bunch of new stuff. He even covered the Pixies and Blur! His band was phenominal and incredibly versitile. They were doing things like going from "Ashes to Ashes" to "Heroes" to "I'm Afraid of Americans" without blinking an eye. Thats spanning three decades and styles without any struggle! There were people young and old (including a very young man rocking out in front of Ethan and a very old woman rocking out behind me) enjoying the whole thing. It was by far the best concert Ive ever been to. Ill try to post tomorrow with more detail. Just know that the feeling of being a part of a crowd of 5,000 screaming "Wam Bam Thank Ya Ma'am!" together can never be matched. By anything. EVER. And being a part of a crowd crying together while singing Heroes with Bowie himself is an amazing thing. It was spiritual in that way church is supposed to be. I have seen god and his name is Bowie. I feel like a better person for having been in that room.
So having said that, I snuck a little 1.3 Megapixel digital spycamera in. Its the size of my thumb and I got it in. I took pictures and due to the distance (26 rows) and the low light and lack of control, some came out a little blurry but I got quite a few nice ones out. None of them you can see Bowie real clearly cause hes so tiny in the shot (it has a near fisheye lens which gives you maximum space and makes objects smaller then they appear) but luckily the monitors worked so you can see him. Great fucking show and enjoy the pictures!
Bowie does "Rebel Rebel"
Bowie does "China Girl" in front of the red screens
Bowie rockin a whole lot on "The Man Who Sold the World!"
Bowie brings in his beautiful and bald black bass player to sing the Freddie Murcury part of "Under Pressure"
More of that
One more!
Bowie and the band doing "The Battle of Brittain" which was so unbelievably and flawlessly like on the Ear th li ng album which I didnt think was possible live.
Bowie does "Heroes" and makes the audience cry with his greatness
And then he does it again with "Suffragette City"
It was great. I also recorded a few clips with my cell phone so Ill try to find a way to get those up here. Until then, enjoy the pictures!
