Rarely does my work day allow for a day spent in the sun (and I am actually kind of thankful for this), but yesterday was an exception -- every so often, we do "road shows", which are live on location from somewhere, and yesterday was the first of two from the Mid-State Fair, which is about 35 miles or so north of here in Paso Robles.
I'd never been, and I wouldn't have gone if I was working -- county and state fairs are not my speed, really, and I try to avoid serious sun exposure on a regular basis. But, I was associate producing the sucker, and that involved being on the makeshift set, while watching set-up and helping the talent with what they might have needed.
It's striking to watch how many people will come up to the anchors randomly, like local celebrities, and they handle it very well. The biggest crowd had to be when the guy with the Zoo to You organization, which has wild animals of sorts on hand and at the fair, brought on this not-quite-jungle-cat on the set, and everyone within a 30 foot radius crowded around the cameras to see it.
Really, I don't actually feel like I did any real work -- all the prep stuff was handled by the producer in the first place, and I just got paid to have fun and be on set, pretty much.
