Possibly Shitcanning the single and going balls out for an ep

Well today I stumbled upon an idea that was indirectly presented to me by a friend and fellow musician. She liked all my melodies but didn't think the original cuts I had of the songs were really going anywhere. And I tended to agree but at the same time I did not want to discard all these melodies and chop them up to make a couple songs that were complete. So I discarded the idea and scrapped a lot of the songs and began rebuilding them. This project went poorly due to lack of recording time and various other aspects. My goal to get an EP out this summer was squashed and I settled with the concept of maybe a 2-3 song single. The songs were getting longer and becoming more complete but they truly lacked the bridges and proper endings that good songs deserve... all they had were introductions and melodies... which was exactly what I started with in the first place.
Now unto the good news, I was listening to a lot of my influences and various other good bands today at work. I popped in 2112 by Rush which is an excellent album despite the high pitched voices and old school effects. I listened to the album and finished my day at work and I went home as I always do. After wasting time at home I went up into my practice room at about 6:00pm. I emerged around 8:30 for a breather and then went back in until 9:30 or so. I managed to successfully compress my melodies into one enormous epic song. I managed to find an effect and save it in my little red dohicky thinger. This effect seemed to work with all the melodies... it was not perfect for all the melodies but it worked... and I found a couple licks that bound it all together. Right now I think it's roughly 19 minutes or so maybe I can drag it out a little bit more so I would only need one song on the EP. That would be great. Hopefully I will get a chance to record it this weekend and finally get headed on the right track towards awesomeness.
