I love pickles.
I will eat pickles morning noon and night. They are (probably) the world's greatest snack food.
Lately I have had incredibly bad luck with Farman's Garlic Dill pickles, which are one of my favorite easy-to-find-in-almost-any-grocery-store pickle.
They always seem to be on sale and so being the thrifty shopper I am, I always buy them. However, the last 3 TIMES I've tried to eat them (after a night in the fridge of course, because who the hell likes warm pickles?) they've been mushy, watery, or rubbery.
From the few experiences I've had with canning pickles, this leads me to believe that the pickles are overcooked. From my limited experience with home canning, I believe you boil the pickles in their jars to sterilize their jars/infuse all of the delicious flavors and spices.
From my limited home canning experience I've also learned that if you boil pickles too long they turn to shitty pickle mush.
As these pickles are always on sale, it leads me to believe that Farmans is putting out an inferior product, hoping to sell them off as quickly as possible. I have been duped.
I think somewhere on the jar it says "quality guaranteed," but in all likelihood I will not call the company. I would like to know what the hell happened to quality assurance though. Isn't anyone testing these pickles to make sure they're safe for America?
If we accept inferior pickled products, the terrorists win.
