What can I say about this place. I have so many things to say that I'm not sure how to say it. First off, I am slumming it. I'm not in HK proper - I'm in the "village" of Ping Shan to the northwest of HK. My uncles are fairly prosperous and they own some buildings there. Our apartment my mom and I are staying has no flush toilet - you have to bring water in to force stuff down. And the shower is a handheld spray in a small room. Water drains away to a hole in the wall. A gecko climbed out of it once and told me to use less shampoo as the phosphates was drying his skin. It's really odd how the populace doesn't care much about the environment they live in, yet they drive the most expensive cars. Mercedes, BMW, Lexus are about, even for people who live in the dirtest shacks. The closest shopping town is Yuen Long. That's where I am now, at a cyber cafe, surrounded by Warcraft gold farmers. They're just kids, as is the owner of this cafe. If you look at ground level, the shops look modern, with tacky neon lights, but if you look up, you'll see decrepit high/lowrise apartments with laundry hanging out the window. It's so warm here I don't think anyone owns a dryer. Temperature has been quite managable - I can't imagine being here in the summer with the crowd of people here. And everyone owns an air conditioner in every room, even in shantytown. I've been to Kowloon (mainland HK) for some fancy shopping, but I'll talk about that another day - I will be going back there for my cousins wedding on Sunday.
