why a beagle? is there a snoopy influence here, or were there other factors?
Why a dog at all? Aren't you a cat person? I am - very much so. But my son has shown some cat allergies so I didn't want something that was going to cause problems when he came over. While I wasn't such a big dog fan, I did want a companion. When my sister got her dog, I read through her dog books and was started to get interested in them. I wanted something medium, friendly, easy for first-timer and low maintenance. Internet breed selectors returned samoyds and beagles. But I was also interested in rescuing a dog from the shelter. As it was I came across Beagle Paws, a beagle rescue here in Canada. My dog, originally a stray from Newfoundland, was at a foster home in Calgary. Thinking myself clever and shit, I named the dog "Darwin."
my experience with beagles suggests that they think very much with two of their organs: nose and stomach. does that correlate with your beagle-experience to date? which do you think exerts a stronger influence? feel free to share relevant anecdotes.
Yes - very much so. Outside, he's all nose. Sniffs everything. He'll poke his head into a snowbank to get a deep sniff. You really see his beagle characteristics when he's out on a walk - head down, tail up. I was very uneasy when I took him to the dog park with gliding_shadow. I had this vision of him off-leash and running away to chase some scent he caught. But he performed very well with the other dogs and did come back when called upon. Inside he's mostly stomach. He'll follow you around if you're eating and really thinks slice cheese is his treat. He use to gobble up his food when it was put out, but he's more leisurely with it, now that he's the only dog in the house.
have you touched the bass recently? why/why not?
Sadly no. The bass is still at my sister's house, along with a great deal of other stuff I have yet to finish moving to my place. I keep saying after spring I'll finish my move.
about which are you most stoked
new batman movie

I haven't been obsessed about a movie since probably Serenity. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Batman and Star Trek; while some people deride a movie because of one thing or another, I enjoy seeing how other people envision the franchise (for good or bad).
to what extent do you care about the current provincial election campaign? what do you think the chances are of anything other than another ordained-by-god conservative majority?
Political apathy is the norm. I've long recognise that I am but a sheep to the political machine, regardless of who's working it. My prediction: a Conservative minority.
