the irony

Today I was told to stop riding my bike on Locust Walk by a fake cop riding a bike. He apparently did not see the irony...I was watching MSNBC coverage of the Virginia Tech disaster last night, when I witnessed one of the most disturbing displays of journalistic narcissism I think I've ever seen: At one point Brian Williams was talking to some jackass, Matt Lauer, I think (I don't watch morning TV so I didn't know him). Lauer is talking to Williams about how easy it was for him to walk around campus (what did he expect, Guantanamo?), and then he starts talking about how he went into the cafeteria, and PEOPLE WERE EATING. The horror! And then he says, and I'm fucking not kidding, "The amazing thing, Brian, was that some people were actually surprised to see me." So instead of thinking about how these traumatized kids were coping with the most spectucular killing spree in American history, Matt Lauer thinks it's odd that people don't know why he, God of TV, is there. And then Williams says something like, "Well Matt, the amazing thing to me is that people...don't realize that this is the deadliest shooting spree in American history." As fucking if someone who's best friend is missing really gives a flying fuck whether more people were killed at Columbine or Virginia Tech. Thanks Brian, you epic douchebag, for putting that in perspective for me, it's good to know it was the deadliest, it makes me feel better that my loved one died for the biggest news event in quite some time.
I loathe television news. I wish there were a stronger word.
