For all the excitement generated by Barack Obama's campaign over the past month, we should not lose sight of how difficult his road to the nomination remains. Hillary Clinton began this primary season the front-runner, and her victory in New Hampshire staved off any long-term momentum from Obama's Iowa win. And
this post should be a reminder that Clinton maintains substantial leads in some major states set to vote next month. As much as I would like to believe that Obama can do this, realistically we need to keep hopes tempered, because a VP slot still seems like his most likely destination to me. That is not to say that I won't be voting for, or supporting him. My citypaper endorsement of Obama will be out on Thursday. But we have to prepare to support a Clinton candidacy as well, and hope that the GOP does not nominate McCain, who might very well win.
