Snow Business

Currently it's snowing hard here as darkness sets in. The Council don't normally grit the 12% gradient hill we live on the side of, so I suspect we will be snowed in by morning.

The Chickens were extremely unimpressed. Even if you peck through the funny white stuff, the ground underneath is frozen. They decided by late lunchtime to cut their losses and opted for early bed time. Even the bread treat they get mid afternoon was hurriedly consumed prior to legging it back to coop. And who can blame them?

Despite the weather, deliveries came. A recent spending frenzy (we are doing up the kitchen) resulted in the sudden appearance of two rather nice solid wood worktops and a duel fuel range cooker to replace the ancient and highly naff electric cooker. Phil, the gas fitter, was busy here this morning putting in the LPG gubbins on the outside wall in the snow, and clearly kicking himself for cancelling the Friday afternoon appointment (he was afraid it might rain)

Now we have two big red 47kg LPG cylinders chained to the outside kitchen wall.

I'm in two minds about returning to gas. LPG hardly squares with the Green Man's green credentials, but hob cooking on electricity is a nightmare. At least the baking will still be done in an electric oven. Maybe long term (after civilisation falls) I will find a wood fired alternative to the range, but for now it will do.

After a busy day I decided a grand gesture was called for and slashed open my thumb with a craft knife while unpacking the range cooker.
