Last weekend I went up to Boston to visit Liz. It had been her birthday earlier in the week, and there had also been a promise of Shakespeare on the Common.
I had a good time, which is usually true of any weekend I spend out of Westchester. It was nice to see Liz, also, I think I'm starting to like Boston. While walking around the city on Saturday I recognized some places from previous visits. I have never liked large parties and Boston feels a lot more intimate than New York.
Shakespeare on the Common was awesome. The production was Hamlet and price of admission was free and you can't go wrong with either of those. I'd never seen Hamlet staged before. The closest I've come is the Mel Gibson movie, which wasn't very good. Live Shakespeare is almost always superior to filmed productions. The cast in this one was top notch. Although the entire production was great, I especially enjoyed the scenes with Polonius.
Also, I found a copy Dying in the Light by George R.R. Martin while we were in a book shop. Martin is one of my favorite writers and Dying of the Light is one of his earliest novels. I thought it was out of print, but it turns out I was wrong. Harry Potter is going to have to wait a few days.
