I think I had a reasonably good weekend.
I tried to get into Macbeth in Central Park, but wasn't able to. The line was Ginormious. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised at this, but I was. The last time I saw Shakespeare in Central Park there was a bit of rain. Not enough to cancel the show, but just enough to keep the line down to a reasonable length. Alas, it was a beautifull day.
I also saw Pirates of the Caribbean 2 over the weekend. Very good, I liked it. The critics are panning it, and I won't say it's with out flaws, but really, who gives a fuck. It was fun. Nothing more really needs to be said. More.
Johnny Depp is still amazing as Jack Sparrow. One of the reviews I read complained that he didn't do anything new with the character, that he could play this role in his sleep. Firstly, I disagree. Sparrow managed to be both more buffoonish and more sinister in the sequel. Secondly, who cares? Sparrow was great in the first film. Secondly, No one was asking for any major revisions to his character
Davy Jones was good, what we saw of him anyway. I would have liked more, probably my only major gripe with the film. The film doesn't really have a major antagonist. I feel like it's supposed to be Jones for this film, but we never get a sense of him and what he wants. Barossa wins this comparison hands down. Speaking of which, Barossa’s back. YEY!
Lord What's His Face from the East India Trading Company appears to be the more interesting one, but we didn't see enough of him for to count as a main antagonist.
I love what they did with Norington. He was a good supporting character in the first Pirates. Yeah he was stiff and arrogant, but he was honorable and surprisingly reasonable. More importantly, I always got him on those "Which Pirates of the Caribbean Character are You?" tests. Anyway, the world has fucked him over, but it can't kill him. I look forward to seeing more of him in the next film.
