Name: Miles Gregory Edgeworth
Canon: Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright
OU/AU: Original~
History:
Miles Edgeworth was raised by his father, a famous defense attorney, Gregory Edgeworth. Miles was very close to his father and looked up to him, hoping that one day, he too could become a great Defense Attorney. This ambition lead him to defend his childhood friend, Phoenix Wright in a school trial. Unfortunately, Miles’ desire to become a defense attorney died down when his father was shot and killed in front of him. The event had left him traumatized, and due to an earthquake that happened moments before his father’s killing, he is now terrified of the ground shaking. After his father died, he was adopted by Manfred von Karma, who also happened to be his father’s courtroom rival.
Miles learned most things about law from Manfred, and grew a hatred for criminals. He was taught how to conduct perfect trials with perfect arguments and evidence. He also became close with his now adoptive sister, Fraziska… though she tended to treat him like a younger brother, despite him being a few years older than her. At the age of 18, Miles had graduated law school and passed the bar exam. This is where he began his life in the prosecution’s office. Trial after trial, he won with perfect evidence, arguments, and witnesses. While he had become a perfect prosecutor, many people were talking behind his back. Rumors of falsified evidence and threatened witnesses flew around, but Miles paid no mind to them. He continued prosecuting, and even won a King of Prosecutors Award.
Edgeworth went through his trials, mercilessly prosecuting, but at the age of 22, he was defeated by rookie defense attorney, Phoenix Wright. After multiple trials, Phoenix continuously defeated Miles until on one Christmas Eve, Miles was accused of shooting and killing the man who defended his father’s murderer, Robert Hammond. Ever s ince the murder, Edgeworth had a reoccurring nightmare that had been the one to accidentally kill his own father. Through the trial it was eventually discovered that Gregory Edgeworth’s murderer was Manfred von Karma.
Now, one would think that that would be the end of Miles’ dismay. However, after the trial with his father’s murderer, Edgeworth had found a dead body in the back of his red Ferarri. Luckily, Miles wasn’t found as a suspect, and proceeded to prosecute for the trial against the suspect, Chief Prosecutor, Lana Skye. Throughout the trial, it was discovered that Lana was merely a victim of a plot by the Chief of Police, Daemon Gant, and that Edgeworth had accidentally used false evidence in a previous trial. Luckily for him, he basically got a slap on the wrist for it.
Edgeworth then fled to Europe, leaving nothing a cryptic note saying “Miles Edgeworth Chooses Death.” Most people had believed that he died. However, a year after his disappearance, he returned to replace his sister (who had gotten shot) in a trial. Through arguments and reason, Miles had discovered with Phoenix, that the true job of a Lawyer is to find the truth and contradictions hidden in people’s lies. He helped stall for time, and save Maya Fey’s life (erm, she was held hostage during this trial).
After a short celebration with Wright and his friends (and a rather depressing conversation with Franziska), Miles then flew off to Europe once again. He studied multiple court systems in different countries, and prosecuted in at least five of them. He was content with his life until he received a phone call from a childhood acquaintance, Larry Butz, saying that Phoenix had fallen off a bridge. As soon as he heard the news, he boarded a private jet and rushed back to the states. He found out the situation, and found himself acting as a Defense Attorney for two days in Phoenix’s place. When Phoenix had recovered, Miles passed the trial on to him.
((Point in Cannon is basically after the 3rd game, but if we wanted to push it, I could even say after the 4th one…even if Miles wasn’t in it D: ))
Personality:Miles seems to think that he is better than most people he meets, and often has a condescending attitude towards most people. Perhaps this is because he became a prosecutor at the age of 18 and had a perfect record until the age of 22, when he was defeated by Phoenix Wright. This served him a bit of humble pie, but old habits are hard to break. Miles is also very intelligent. Any move he makes, he calculates in advance. Everything he does, he tries to do perfectly. Of course he does know that there will be some imperfections, but it is better if he tries to get rid of them while he can.
Miles loves to spend his time drinking tea, reading papers and books on law, listening to classical music, as well as prosecuting the occasional case or two. However, his entertainment is not limited to just those things. When home alone (with the exception of his dog Pess), he is often found sitting o n his computer, or in front of his television, watching his favorite show, the Steel Samurai. Yes, Miles Edgeworth is a fanboy for the Steel Samurai. Yes, he refuses to admit it, but he’s probably seen every episode at least three times. He collects the little figurines, and he knows everything about each of the characters. A new series he’s gotten into is the Pink Princess. Miles is also fond of video games, especially hand-held video games. He’s recently upgraded to a Nintendo DS Lite (Pink of course) and enjoys playing Elite Beat Agents. Aside from the children’s show fanboying and gaming, Miles is fond of his large shiba inu, Pess. His emotions are directly related to the dog’s well being. He takes very good care of it, almost to the point of spoiling it.
Abilities:
SUPER LAWYER POWERS ACTIVATE
He’s a very educated man in multiple subjects. Law and Criminology are his most apparent subjects, but he is educated in Philosophy, Psychology, and multiple languages. He knows at least five languages… Two of them being English and German. In court, Edgeworth is harsh with his arguments, and on the defendants. He is simply known as the Demon Prosecutor amongst his colleagues.
Weaknesses:
As a result of his father’s death, Earthquakes and Elevators frighten Miles to the point where he rolls up in a ball on the floor and cowers. Other weaknesses include stabbings, gunshot wounds, and the occasional mortal wounds.
Possessions: The clothes off his back (and silly Cravat), a briefcases full of case documents (and of course, his pink Nintendo DS and a game or two), and seeing as he’d just gotten home when he had arrived, his dog Pess. (If there’s a problem with that, let me know~)
⎛SAMPLE⎠
Miles Gregory Edgeworth was a prosecutor. A prosecutor of high caliber. A prosecutor who had earned great respect amongst his colleagues. A prosecutor whose….services were currently needed elsewhere. It was time, once again, for Miles Edgeworth, the Demon Prosecutor to leave the United States and prosecute abroad. Of course, that was years ago. Three, to be exact. It was not a very long time, but it was enough to allow change.
Not much about Miles had changed. He still often wore his burgundy suit with the cravat still in it’s rightful place around his neck. His hair was still the same premature grey it was, slicked back with the exception of the bangs that framed his face.
