Not at all. I think it's important to like one's own work. (There are stories of mine, I'm happy to say, that I love.) It's especially good when your work is the cause of a lot of intriguing thought . . .

For instance, upon re-reading your story, I found it interesting that there was no mention of Jack. (I should first say that I think this was proper storytelling on your part, which is probably why I did not miss him the first time through. You did an excellent job keeping the focus of the fic where it belonged: on Will and Elizabeth and their connection over the centuries.) However, although Jack really had no place in the action here, in retrospect I find it interesting that any thoughts of him were absent from Will's reminiscence. This gave rise to a few questions:

- Did Will not think of Jack because, plain and simple, his memory has no significance right now?
- Or could this have meant that Will never "ferried" Jack to the afterlife?
- If the latter did not happen, then did Jack not die at sea? (A sad thought considering his love for it.)
- Or could it mean Jack found the Fountain of Youth after all? (In the universe you've created within this story, I like this notion -- it means Will may not be as alone as he seems. He has another immortal friend out there -- especially one who remembers Elizabeth, even if she, herself, does not.)

*sigh!* Thank you again for such a wonderful (and thought-provoking!) story!

Really? It's okay? I'm glad because honestly I think this might be my favorite story of mine! I don't know why, it's like it just came to me so easily and completely... I don't think I ever had a story birthed like that before.

As for Jack... I really don't know he never entered Will's mind during this moment in time. I'd say with only one day he puts all his focus on her. Since he didn't think about Jack I didn't either.

I think if Jack has passed on, it was quite awhile ago, and he has drifted to a very distant but fond memory. I think sometimes, especially when Elizabeth is in the world and he knows it, he focuses very intently on her. I think that when she is not he sometimes forgets completely his old life for long stretches of time. :( That's really sad, but that's what my heart is telling me for this particular fic. I know that when he does think of Jack he laughs.

I just can't reconcile Jack, darn Will for not telling me anything about Jack! Instead he tells me about farther into the future where humans have all passed beyond life and he is left forever with no one to ferry captaining an empty ship on a dead sea waiting for the day he can walk upon dead land for a day. "Forever is a bloody long time," he says.

And that is so sad, I don't want to write that story!

Lord, that last one's a sad thought. I suppose in that case, he could locate and stab his own heart, and be done with the job, maybe?

I thought that too! Except he can't really stab his own heart! he'd just have to take his own place. Plus, I wonder if when the heart is stabbed would he die as in go to the after life? Or would he just cease to be?

So, I was thinking about this some more, and the first thing that pops into my head is a picture of Jack in the modern world (as immortal). :p Unless the Pearl was ouched by that sort of magic as well, it would be tough to stay out at sea with her, but I'm sure if it were true he'd get a thrill out of haunting the shores.

- Or could this have meant that Will never "ferried" Jack to the afterlife?
- If the latter did not happen, then did Jack not die at sea? (A sad thought considering his love for it.)

So, on this note your saying that if Jack was ferried it's likely he'd end up on Will's crew maybe? I was thinking about this this morning and I realized that I don't think dead men get to join the crew, Davey Jones always offers the option to "dying" men. They can't hope to live, but they aren't actually dead yet. So, on that note perhaps Jack died valiantly at sea and Will didn't get to him before he died so he couldn't call him onto the crew.
