So Very sqWii

Yesterday I visited Brooklyn and picked up the following:
  • Spore - Spore is sort of a many-in-one game. It starts with you running around a little cell which is either a carnivore or herbivore. Said cell finds mutations/improvements and eats, earning it DNA points (money) to spend on upgrading your little guy. For example, you can give it a 2nd mouth to eat different food, better propulsion, spikey bits, electrocution, etc. Eventually, when you've advanced enough, the game changes: your guy takes to the land (along with your speciesmates) where you fight or ally with other species on land, again, picking up improvements and buying them. As you become better at fighting/diplomacy, your brain grows allowing you to have a larger entourage. Once large enough, it enters the Tribal stage... which is as far as I've gone. So far the game is quite good but I'm afraid it might be shallow - it combines a variety of games (Civ, Age of Blah, Master of Orion) but I'm afraid they might be relatively weak versions of each. To some degree this is premature on my part since I haven't played those 3 stages, but given I got through the first 2 in a couple hours or so (the 2nd stage is vaguely The Sims-like), I'm a little worried. It is, however, light and fun.
  • WiiFit - The shop I found Spore in had a bunch of WiiFits so I picked one up. Given the aforementioned Spore and the following tho, I haven't even looked at it.
  • Travel Turtle - Yesterday the Turtle Liberation Front (TLF) found and rescued:

Sadly they're a little blurry because they kept crawling up my arm. I'm going to take better photos tonight. I have some of them riding the MTA and attempting to escape my bathroom sink.
Currently they are (unnamed and) sunning themselves in my apartment, being taken care of by one of my larger plush turtles. I was afraid he'd get jealous but fortunately, he's a little stupid and is convinced looking out the window is 'watching television'. He seems to think they're some sort of nature show.
Anyway, they'll be relocated to my office tomorrow. I bought them a little tank today and, with luck, I'll have them for the next 30 or so years.
Lastly, I was in the UK last week visiting some grad school friends and picking more stuff up. I bought (for no good reason) SingStar for the PS3 (it was only $30) and tested it on the US PS 3 in the office. I'm pleased to see it works perfectly. Now all I need is for Sony to cut the price $200.
