That was all the sound she made, gently walking across the surface of the lake. It was a simple thing, to walk on water. She never did understand why some equated it with deities. It only took a modicum of mana to increase the surface tension of the water. But then, she was closer to that element than most. It was dark, save for a small sliver of moonlight in the clear sky. No others were around at the wee hours of the morning, especially in December. Had there been anyone wandering this far from the city, Kayura would have… taken care of them.
She had no idea what the summoning would do, but destroying her borrowed residence would have been undesirable. If it did cause anything that would be seen, well, she would be long gone before they arrived. She’d carved an intricate circle into the shore-a focus point for the summoning, like her master had instructed. Her palm still stung from the blood-letting with her ritual sai, but it was necessary to form the pact. All was ready.
The incantation echoed amongst the trees with a clear note from her clashing sai as she released the mana required to summon. The circle several feet away began to glow, brightening until it blinded her night-adapted vision.
