Anyroad, I'll keep watch over the ( Read more... )

Do we have a secret knock? How about a secret yell? LET ME IN THERE ARE ONLY SO MANY MORE TIMES I CAN DUCK.

[Last part audible, though not a voice post.]

[Streak of red lightning throwing herself through before slamming it again. Locking. Double locking, and looking like she's ready to fall over.]

I never saw anybody decaptitated before... [breathe, breathe] Four months in this city, that's pretty good going, right?

[He pulls over a chair for her before returning warily to the door's peep-hole.]

..Beheaded? Oh dear. You mean... They've actually done it, then?

You give a whole town a bunch of sharp things and a superiority complex, sooner or later somebody's gonna get hurt.

I didn't get a sword. I don't know why I didn't get a sword, but I've got...

[pulls out the gun Faye had been getting her more familiar with at the shooting range that afternoon]

If you're planning on going out there I don't think it's me you need to worry about. Just how immortal is immortal, anyway?

[She doesn't like the gun much, either, but she doesn't like a lot of necessary things. And she absolutely doesn't mutter anything about Mary's Little Lamb under her breath.]

Well, go be a hero if you need to be. If you pick a sunny enough spot the armour might just blind everybody into submission, anyhow.

[a slight frown, mouth working without sound for a brief moment]

Alright, then?

[and it's a really stupid question.]

I always am.

[Somewhere there's an honest answer, left unspoken.]]

Wait.

[This having to ease herself up out of chairs is starting to make her feel like an old lady. She pulls the scarf from around her neck and goes to tuck it in to cover the bare patch between his chin and neckpiece.]

That's better, at least. No chinks.

[His expression goes for optimistic concern to curious as she rises, and finally an honest and grateful smile. What a nice gesture!]

Thank you, Rose.

[A firm touch at her upper arm, and he goes to slip securely from the apartment once more.]

[slides the last lock back into place and leans against the door, arms wrapped round her middle.]

Everybody wants to save the world.
