I'm just going to copy bits from my LJ review (which is too long for a comment, plus there's a bit of personal jibber jabber in there).
So we know now that it's been 500 years since anyone's gotten into the Good Place. I knew there were probably very few people in it, but I had expected it to be closer to a small fraction of people - I think we all had. I don't think anyone was expecting it to essentially be a complete gridlock. I'm interested to see where they're going with this. (It also makes me wonder if my reboot theory is going to come to fruition? tl;dr short, my theory was that they were basically going to reboot all of time, given how unfair the system was, but it also seemed rather drastic. Turning back 500 years seems less so. Maybe.)
So who's been hacking the system, and why? Why would The Good Place even only allow it? Can they truly be good? You know what, apparently cursing actually is prohibited. Yeah, that's bullshirt, they're not good. Maybe they're evil good. (Neutral Good? Chaotic Good? I'll just say evil good, it sounds very Eleanor. No, but really, my guess is Chaotic Good or Neutral Good.)
I know the point isn't religion or any sort of theology, but I would like to know more about the mythos. Is there actually a God/Goddess in this universe? Or is it just very bureaucratic, always has been? We know all religions got about 5% right, so I would think there is some sort of prime mover, just not in any sense religion ever accurately surmised. I don't know. Also, did point totals change with the times? I feel like things that have happened way back in time were so bad, no one should have gotten in. But I'm also looking at the anthropological aspect, whereas this show is more sociological/philosophical.
I'm pretty sure the Judge is supposed to be the equivalent of "God" in this universe. :P Though all the bureaucracy makes me think of Supernatural's version of heaven/hell quite a bit. :P
I've suspected for some time now that the "Good Place" might not actually be all that good... or whoever runs it/lives there might not be so good, either. We'll see in January, I suppose. :P
