So how does one treat a phaser burn?

[Filtered to lab wardens.]My inmate, Alice, would like to be given lab access. She's a PhD with a specialty in dark matter in disc galaxies. Her love of science isn't why she's here, so she won't be a security risk. I think it would do her loads of good if someone would ( Read more... )

I'd be happy to help you. I was just recalibrating the TARDIS's sensors. [Because unsolved mysteries annoy him.]

Thanks.

This is going to sound silly. Like really silly.

[He motions to his outfit. And then for her to continue. The most soundless yet expressive response this Doctor can give.]

[The gesturing to his outfit made her smile without realizing it.]

Have you ever had to be... well, guarded?

[Her tone and face suggests that she's having a bit of a hard time with this.]

Yes. But I always set someone up to "succeed" so that I could turn up later and prove their efforts ineffectual or reveal them for what they truly are.

What's the matter? [Why does Martha need to be guarded!? There is much concern.]

Bellatrix told Sev that she plans to hurt me during the truth flood. Naturally, he's panicking so now I've loads of magic users who are meant to defend me.

I'm... uncomfortable with it to say the least.

On this ship... no matter how much protection you have, it tends to fall through, anyway. He doesn't want to be responsible for your future difficulties, even though he doesn't realize that he is likely already being troublesome in an entirely different manner.

[He thinks she should trap her somehow. That's the best plan.]

He doesn't want to have to see me hurt, which I understand, given everything. However, it makes me feel silly to have people protecting me like this.

Psychologically it's more for him than for you. I'd permit it as a gift, but the moment it became more of a compromise to your freedom then you need to put your foot down and demand that you know the risks and are willing to face them.

I know, that's what I've been trying to do. It's still awkward as hell though. There are loads of better things people can be doing here than protecting me.

I suppose I'm going to need to grin and bare it for a few more days anyway.

Perhaps you should also broach the possibility of acquiring items that will allow you to better protect yourself.

I carry a hypo of sedative with me at all times. Have since Saxon tried to snap Judas's neck. I've also been given something that will block her magic for a time.

I think those are excellent options. Should I ask Frances for something additional to protect yourself with?

I don't want to bother anyone else unless I have too. If something happens, I'll seek out whatever I can.
